Ian Wright

Ian Wright became a role model for many people when it came to speaking out against racism in football, particularly for his black fans at Arsenal, but also for young players and his team-mates.
As such he has pointed the finger not just at the racist abuse that comes from the fans, but also at the institutionalised form of racism that makes it almost impossible for people of colour to become coaches or hold important positions in the world of football.
The author Colin King uses football in the United Kingdom as an example to emphasise that the unbroken whiteness, the predominance of people with white skin, is a big problem in football. Football is still organised from a white, male perspective that allows little else through. Coaches, managers or club officials in clubs are not really aware of this, simply because most of them are white.
